Part of the TGA’s job description is to make sure medicinal cannabis products are up to standard. To check those standards, they recently tested 22 medicinal cannabis products available to Australian patients.
For cannabis medicines in herbal form, the requirements state they must not be less than 80% of the stated content, and not more than 120%.
For cannabis medicines in any other form, they must not be less than 90% of the stated content, and not more than 110%.
These are the five which failed the testing:
- Bedrocan Dried Cannabis Flos for Inhalation – 74.9%
- Spectrum Blue Cannabis Oil – 87.1%
- LGP Classic 20:5 Cannabis Oil – 88.3%
- Althea Jasper Cannabis Oil – 111.2%
- Althea Capilano Cannabis Oil – 110.1%
As you can see, none failed spectacularly, which is likely why none received any penalties (yet). The TGA simply issued warnings and reminded them of the penalties of not conforming to TGO93.
The remaining 17 products all fell in line with the requirements.
