Western Australia police have seized over 100 cannabis plants from a cannabis cultivation operation in Langford.
Detectives from Cannington raided two homes early on Friday, May 28th. The homes are located side-by-side on Langford Avenue, roughly 11 kilometres from Perth’s CBD. Inside the residences, police uncovered a hydroponic cannabis grow operation they considered “sophisticated”.
In total, police seized over 100 plants from both homes. The plants were growing inside the residences and were taken away by police in over a dozen bags. Police also located a stolen Volkswagen golf at one of the homes. The car was towed by police.
According to Cannington’s Detective Senior Sergeant Doug Stjepic, the seizure of cannabis from the grow houses will have a significant impact on the state’s cannabis black market. Australia’s cannabis black market is worth over $14.8 billion nationwide, according to the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).
The Langford raid comes just weeks after WA police seized 200 kilograms of cannabis from a short-term accommodation home in East Cannington. Five people are currently facing charges in relation to the East Cannington cannabis operation.
The same cannot be said for the Langford grow houses. Police have not made any arrests in relation to the Langford raid so far, but they are continuing their inquiries. The two grow house operations have been dismantled and the cannabis will be destroyed.
