Queensland Man Convicted After Writing His Name On Cannabis Plants

A Queensland man has been convicted in Rockhampton Magistrates Court after police found his name written on cannabis plants in his backyard. 

Maclaine Kennedy Wade Nelson was sentenced to nine months probation earlier this week after he pleaded guilty to one count of producing a dangerous drug and another count of possessing drug equipment. 

Nelson was arrested on July 24, after police executed a search warrant at his Frenchville home. At the property, police found a tent with four cannabis plants and hydroponics equipment. Police noted Nelson had left a note, stating “contents belong to M. Nelson.” 

According to Defence Lawyer Rowan King, Nelson was a radio technician before COVID-19 and had a long criminal record. His client also told the court he was intending to use the cannabis to help him sleep, but had not yet sought medical care. King was quoted by the Morning Bulletin, saying:

He got hooked at a young age and never stopped.

Nelson will be required to attend an Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service Program.
