Queensland Man Arrested Over Backyard Cannabis
A Queensland man is in police custody this week after he was caught growing nearly 370 cannabis plants in a backyard shed.
The 59-year-old man was arrested back on July 1st after Logan police executed a search warrant at a property in Yatala, South-East Brisbane. During their search on the Ferguson Street property, police uncovered 369 live cannabis plants - many of which were held in a makeshift spliff shed.
The Yatala man was charged with the production of dangerous drugs, possessing drug paraphernalia, and possessing dangerous drugs. As cannabis is considered a schedule 2 drug in Queensland, the man faces a twenty-year prison sentence if found guilty.
The cannabis is believed to have an estimated street value of nearly $920,000, according to Queensland police. However, 7News also released bodycam footage of the property on Facebook, prompting commenter Chris Noble to disagree with the official police appraisal, writing:
Good luck selling that trash weed for $1 million.
The Yatala is due to face the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 16, COVID-19 permitting.
