$5 million cannabis farm busted in QLD
On Tuesday 26th March, the same day an inquiry was being held into legalisation cannabis in the ACT, police raided and seized more than $5.4 million worth of cannabis.
Jamie Deacon, Acting Inspector for the region, said the raid and subsequent seizure of the cannabis plants have uncovered a vast drug ring operating throughout the region. The farm was located in Southern Downs, a 2 hour drive south-west of Brisbane.
All up, 1,825 cannabis plants were seized, along with around 140 kg of dried cannabis. Three people were on the property at the time of the raid, all of Vietnamese nationality. Two were found to be unlawful non-citizens, and the other was in breach of a bridging visa.
Joan Wacker, Detective Superintendent of the Drug and Serious Crimes Group was concerned regarding their nationality.
We have been working closely with our partners at the ABF and the Australian Federal Police to target the exploitation of unlawful non-citizens for the sole purpose of producing and manufacturing these drugs. In addition to the three arrests during the raid, four more subsequent arrests were made in the region after intercepting various vehicles. It is believed the routine traffic stop which netted $1.5 million in cannabis led police to the property. Police were kind enough to record and publish the raid for your viewing pleasure: https://www.ponderingpot.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Police-raid-cannabis-farm-in-Queensland.mp4
