Cannabis Eradication Program digs up 12,096 plants across NSW
Bikies and organised crime lords are allegedly being "brought to their knees" by the Cannabis Eradication Program, according to the new Drug & Firearms Squad Commander, Martin Fileman.
In the past 4 months, more than $24.2 million worth of cannabis has been uprooted all over the NSW state in an effort to curtail the illegal plantations.
Some growers are going to extreme efforts including nestling their cannabis in between blueberry and banana fields, but there seems to be nowhere to hide from trained crop-spotters taking to the skies in their chopper.
25 people were arrested during this year's program, with the final two arrests being made on the last day of the program - February 7th, where police announced their haul.
When questioned whether police should be focusing more on harder drugs, Martin responded:
As law enforcement officers we enforce the law, we don't debate it.
